Pearland to receive $23,643 grant to help prevent crime

WASHINGTON The City of Pearland will receive a grant of $23,643 from the Department of Justice to help prevent crime based on local needs and conditions, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced Wednesday. The funding comes through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG).

Gobin Ramroop, 57, of Pasadena was sentenced to 14 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and ordered to pay a $2,500 fine by a Galveston County jury on September 3. Ramroop, who also uses the alias Govinda Vishnu, was convicted of Stalking - Enhanced, a second degree felony by a Galveston County jury on September 2.
